Anthony Evans: Are Central Bank Digital Currencies a Good Idea?

Anthony J. Evans is Professor of Economics at ESCP Business School. He has been an Affiliate Faculty Member on the Microeconomics of Competitiveness Programme at Harvard Business School, and was a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at San Jose State University.

His research areas are monetary economics and transitional economics. He works on topics related to competitiveness, central banking, and neoliberalism.

He has published in a range of academic and trade journals and is the author of Economics: A Complete Guide for Business (2020), Getting the Measure of Money (2018), and The Neoliberal Revolution in Eastern Europe (2009). His work has been covered by most broadsheet newspapers, and he has appeared on Newsnight and the BBC World Service.

He specialises in teaching Managerial Economics at the Masters and Executive MBA level for prominent business schools across Europe. Using a combination of lectures, case discussion and group activities he has introduced over 5,000 current and future managers to the economic way of thinking. He has been Head of Research (2011-2013) and Head of Teaching and Learning (2016-2022) for the London campus of ESCP Business School, where he received the 2018 Teaching award.

Anthony completed the Oxford Scenarios Programme, at Said Business School, in 2022, the Successful Case Teaching Workshop in Munich, 2019, and the Global Colloquium for Participant-Centred Learning at Harvard Business School in 2009. He received his MA and PhD in Economics from George Mason University, USA, and his BA (Hons) from the University of Liverpool, UK. He is an FA licensed soccer coach and lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and two children.
